St Raphael Club was founded in 1966 and was originally held on the premises of Ipswich High School for Girls in Westerfield Road. It has been on its present site since the 1970’s with the land being purchased from a Mr Tommy Rose who had a shop in St Matthew’s Street, Ipswich. The foundation stone was laid in July 1976 by Eva Tillott, who along with her husband Ken ran the club for many years.
Once the foundation stone had been laid it was about three years before funds were available to carry on with the building work.
Ken and Eva Tillott also ran a Home in Felixstowe Road, Ipswich, where care was available for those in need.
Originally, the club was open 5 days a fortnight. Now it is run on a Tuesday one week and Thursday the next, and is self-funding. We are a totally independent organisation
Margaret & Cheri – Our CooksThe Club is run entirely by volunteers, with two hard-working ladies in the kitchens, who do all the cooking.
We are also a registered charity with the Charity Commissioners (number 256869).
